What is Carnatic Classical Music?

"Carnatic Classical Music" or "Karnataka Sasthriya Sangeetham" is a system of music commonly associated with southern part of India. Carnatic Classical music is very important in southern part of India, a few states that Carnatic Classical music is associated with are Karnataka, Andra Pradesh, Telengana, Kerala and Tamilnadu.  


Carnatic music, with its Indian tradition, has evolved from the classification of ragas and talas. Although improvisation plays a major role in Carnatic music, there are vast number of composed pieces, particularly the "Krithi or Keerthana", complex devotional songs by composers from the 16th through the 20th centuries, particularly Sri Purandhara Daasa and the "Trinity" of great composers of the early 19th century: Sri Thiagaraja, Sri Muthuswamy Dhiskhitar and Sri Syama Sasthri.
